Apple is in transition for the first time since 2011 with a new CEO. Tim Cook is stepping into an executive role. The new CEO will be John Ternus, Apple’s Senior VP of Product Engineering. Ternus had a big part in the AirPods as well as a handful of other Apple products. Why is it the perfect time for Cook to pass the torch?
Apple isn’t just shaking up its CEO and other key jobs coming this fall. They’re also in a major transition regarding new products. Plenty of new devices, rumored or otherwise, are on the way. It’ll be a huge boost to confidence if Ternus can steer the ship to success. With product launches such as the long-rumored foldable iPhone, a hybrid HomePod/iPad, and Apple glasses being discussed in the Apple-verse, there’s an opportunity to win back some of the faithful fans.
It is reported that Ternus will be taking over in September, just in time for the new phones and watches launches, driven by the new OS 27. If any of these products rumored to be on the slate come to life, it will give the company the chance to do something it hasn’t done in years. It can come up with new designed products.
Until now, they have stuck closely to the status quo in the design of their product lines. They’ve had incremental changes that are often barely seen by the naked eye. Their vision for innovation has fallen off. Vision Pro has been their closest thing to a new product with a new design. However, the results were mixed on its launch.
That’s not to say Apple hasn’t had a vision or failed to dream big. They just haven’t been able to execute as intended. Apple Intelligence is falling short of the original plan. Their long-rumored electric car never saw the light of day, and Vision Pro seemed rushed and never fully developed. The company has always lived by the motto “Think Different,” but is stuck in a rut, pushing more of the same.
Tim Cook took the company to all-new heights as far as market value, but if not for the focus on services such as AppleTV and Apple Fitness+, the hardware has been stuck in neutral. With John Ternus taking over at just the right time, can Apple push these rumored products across the finish line and move Apple into a new era?
