Giannis Antetokounmpo could be on the move this offseason and surprisingly, the Atlanta Hawks are being floated as a potential landing spot.
Sounds crazy, right? Maybe. But with the Milwaukee Bucks in flux and the Hawks seeking a new identity under general manager Onsi Saleh, this might not be just another offseason fantasy. Could Atlanta actually pull off a deal for the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player?
Is Giannis done in Milwaukee?

After being eliminated in the first round by the Indiana Pacers, Antetokounmpo’s frustration has become increasingly public. The Bucks’ season ended in a gentleman’s sweep, marking their third consecutive first-round exit since winning the title in 2021.
According to reports, Antetokounmpo was unhappy with the organization’s decision to waive Damian Lillard less than three months after the guard sustained a torn left Achilles tendon. The Bucks then signed center Myles Turner to a four-year, $107 million deal.
While Giannis signed a three-year, $186 million contract extension in 2023, the deal includes a player option for the 2027–28 season. He would earn more than $62 million if he opted in at age 33.

What would it take?
What to Consider
With all the talks surrounding Giannis, Atlanta would still have to consider Trae Young eventually needing a new deal though. Young is eligible for a four-year, $228.6 million max extension now. Young could also opt out of his player option next offseason to become a free agent. Dyson Daniels would also be up for a new deal as a restricted free agent after next season as well.
So… Is this real?

To be clear, a trade this offseason feels unlikely. Milwaukee still holds significant leverage, and Giannis Antetokounmpo has remained mostly loyal throughout his career.
That said, there are cracks forming in the Bucks’ foundation. And if their struggles continue into next season, don’t be surprised if Antetokounmpo begins seriously evaluating his options.
Meanwhile, Saleh and the Hawks are clearly pushing for a new era. This one looks to be centered around competitiveness and relevance. Just the fact that Atlanta is in the rumor mill with Giannis shows how far their ambition has grown. It’d be a dream come true to see the 2021 Finals MVP in Atlanta catching lobs from Trae Young.
The idea may feel far-fetched, but remember: Even Luka got traded too.
