After watching the Pilot for Ted Lasso on Apple TV+, we have a base of comparison for the episodes from now on. Up next is episode 2, titled Biscuits, where does this one rank on the all-time episode list?
Season 1 – Episode 2: Biscuits
With this episode, we see just how much Ted will become a thorn in the side of Rebecca’s plans. She wants him to fail, he has relentless optimism. Early in the episode, we see the community connection with futbol and the pressure it will eventually put on Ted.
The second episode introduces “Biscuits with the boss” a recurring storyline that holds some minor significance now but will gain more importance later in the show.
Biscuits pushes the wholesomeness of Ted who absolutely annoys Rebecca but goes to show just how dedicated he is despite the naysayers.
Back on the pitch, Ted’s tension and nerves show up early and hints at something bigger.
Jamie Tartt is on full display in this episode and we start to see Roy’s leadership when Jamie comes over to taunt Sam’s defense. Speaking of Sam, we learn he’s homesick and hasn’t quite found his footing with the team.
The Quotes
“Mark this down as the first time we disagree then. Actually, no, second time. Tea is horrible. Absolute garbage water.”
“Do you know what the happiest animal on Earth is? It’s a goldfish. Do you know why?”, “No”, “Got a ten-second memory. Be a goldfish, Sam”
Where does Biscuits rank?
Biscuits was great but I think it dropped off from the first episode. Some of the Ted-isms shined through but it was just a small expansion on the characters. There were of course the quotables but in the second episode, it failed to drive the plot and focused more on characters. That’s not to say that’s a bad thing, as most shows develop characters early on.
For those keeping track, the episode of the episode ranks so far:
1 – Pilot
2 – Biscuits
