If you’re a fan of Severance on Apple TV+, we’ve reached that time of the year when we’re stuck wondering. The season finale aired last week, and we’re just as shocked as you are. Coming off of that finale, the show writers have some things they have to answer for.
Mr. Milchick
First and foremost, what happens to my man Mr. Milchick? Sure, he can tell his boss to “devour feculence” if when he’s got control of the Severance floor, but as we saw by the end of the episode, he does not have control over his domain. Surely, there will be some sort of punishment for his lack of control, but what will that look like? At the end of the day, Mark completed Cold Harbor, and that was the ultimate goal, so will it even matter if they were allegedly disposing of MDR when it was finished? Will the board look at it as mission accomplished and let it slide, or will there be extreme measures taken?
Helly/Helena & Mark/Mark S.
How does this play out? Mark killed a guy and let their prisoner escape. Helly chose Mark over whatever weird plan the Eagans had for her. Neither has an exit strategy for their decisions, and as soon as they leave their chips activate and they go back to being Helena and outtie Mark, who want two opposing things from their innies. How does that work? Is there some dark hall they’re going to hide out in and live out the rest of their days? It’s not like they have a ton of options.
Gemma
Finally, how will Gemma deal with Mark’s innie choosing Helly R. However, he’s not as close with her as outtie Mark. To him, she’s a complete stranger. At that point, he was just following his gut, so he essentially didn’t betray her; he betrayed outtie Mark. Will Gemma see it that way and fight to save Mark? Does she have the resources to even go up against Lumon and their crazy set of psychopaths doing whatever shady thing they’re actually doing? Will she be the one to try and reintegrate to take Lumon down with the help of Ms. Cobel?
The Other Severed
Now that Cold Harbor is complete, what happens to the rest of MDR? Where did they send Irv off to? Why the hell did Irv keep painting the elevator to the Testing floor? As much as we want to find out what is up with Lumon and all the weird things they’re doing, there’s so much to answer for with each character. Are we getting a backstory for each on why they chose to have the procedure done to begin with?
There are so many questions, and each time you get a new answer, three more questions pop up. It’s like watching LOST all over again. Hopefully, we can start getting into the thick of what Lumon is really up to, but I wouldn’t mind finding out why these specific characters mattered so much as part of their plans.
