It’s been a few years since the controversial ending to the popular Drama/Comedy show Good Girls. Even if the show ratings were in decline, fans were still not thrilled that their show was canceled without a proper series ending season or episode.
During its 4 season run, I never watched a single episode. It wasn’t until recently I decided to give Good Girls a try and that was due to a video that was sent to me on TikTok. A friend said I reminded them of Rio and sent a clip of Rio showing up at Beth’s house demanding she get in the car and go for a ride.
Anytime someone tells you that you remind them of someone, you have to take notice, right? Well, that caught my attention and I decided to hit Netflix and start episode One. That was two weeks ago and last night, I finished the series and was left dumbfounded. Where was the rest? I went to Google and then found out that show was canceled with that crappy ass ending.
As with most loyal fans of Good Girls, I was left wondering how Annie’s prints got on the gun. What kind of boss and politician would Beth be and what side did Ruby pick? But no, I nor any of us would ever get any answers to those questions.
Speculation is that the show ended over disagreements over money. The three female leads agreed to accept less while Manny Montana wanted more. Maybe that’s true and maybe it isn’t. But whatever happened ruined a great storyline that should have gotten better in Season 5.
I do agree that the show lost some of its luster after Season 2. Some of the plots were a bit unbelievable at best. Three untrained women became counterfeit masterminds in a short period. Robbed stores like they changed underwear and even had time to run a strip club and still not get any jail time. Like I said, a bit unbelievable.
However, Good Girls was still fun at times. But the way the story ended, you could tell that the writers had more left in them. They were expecting another season. Annie taking the fall for Beth was not fair at all. She was just getting her life together. Ruby being placed in a position to choose between her family and friends was a good choice. But Beth becoming the leader of the criminal underground world, yeah, that was a stretch. She was smart, but she didn’t have what it took to be anything close to Rio or Nick.
A lot of things went right with Good Girls and plenty went wrong. Did it deserve another season? Yes, to see how it all turned out was what the fans wanted most. Season 5 should have been the swan song for these ladies and Rio but we’ll never know what happened to them.
