To be honest guys, I have found 2024 to be a rather slow year for movies. Also, as you will notice, not a single horror movie made the cut his time. Hell, it took us until halfway through the year to see anything worth a trip to the theatre, but eventually, all these directors put out some bangers. This will serve as a recall of what I like to believe are the greatest movies of 2024. Let me know what your top movies are below!
Starting with our honorable mention, we have Moana 2. With a 62% rotten tomato review, this movie came out recently and is still currently playing in theatres near you. Moana 2 is rated PG, runs for 1 hour and 40 minutes, and falls in the child and family category of films. I saw this film most recently, and I really enjoyed the musical pieces, but even more so the comedy. The subtle humor amidst the sometimes intense themes was new and welcome. Some scenes may be intense to young children, so just keep that in mind as there are hints at some intense topics, but I do think the PG rating is fair. I enjoyed this movie and would actually say the second is better than the first! Her little sis Simea was my personal favorite this time, and of course, alongside Pua and Hei Hei.
Then folks, sliding into spot 3 is Deadpool & Wolverine. Released on June 26th, 2024, this Rated R film stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as well as Channing Tatum and several other stars. This movie holds a 78% rating on Rotten Tomato and holds pretty high ranks in the action arena. The fourth wall breaks style of comedy, the hints and pulls, the chemistry between Hugh and Ryan, all of it was so fabulously done. I have continued to rave about this movie since I first saw it opening weekend, and I have paid to see it many times after that. If you haven’t seen it… do so..quickly. I know this says spot 3, but that’s based on stats. This was my favorite movie of the year.
Are you guys musical fans? I know I am Hairspray, West Side Story, Rent, Annie…I was a theatre kid all the way. This year’s star musical comes as no surprise. Shattering the way to #2 is, as everyone knows, America’s current fan fave, WICKED. Starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, this bright light has flabbergasted the nation with wit, whimsy, humor, and absolute talent. The showcase of discovery of one’s self and the strength to pursue said self is awe-inspiring. Rating at 88 percent on Rotten Tomato, Wicked is a PG film with a 2-hour and 40-minute stamp time. If you are going to see a musical this year..make it this one!
Guys, coming in at #1 might shock you. My movie of the year, as well as the top of a lot of lists, is Pixars Inside Out 2. Released June 14th, this movie stole my heart. I was a fan of the first movie, and I was so excited to see this next chapter of Riley’s life (the main character. ) The struggles in this movie are so relatable not only to kids going through them but also to us adults who are now looking back at ourselves, or those who are parents now thinking of their kiddos. The emotional accessibility in this movie is beyond its time. Just trust me, you need to see this film, spare the 1 hour and 36 minutes out of your day, and please watch this, it was by far my favorite film this year. Go Pixar!
Go check out a movie theatre near you guys, make it a new tradition. Live through the screen.
Until next time, friends!
