The 2024 Heisman is a two-man race. Despite what many will say, the winner will come down to Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty. One is a CB/WR and the other is a RB. While QBs have won the Heisman 7 of the last 8 years, including the last 3, no QB is walking away with it this year.
That’s not to say any aren’t deserving but what QB has had such an impact this season that will knock out Hunter and Jeanty? If this could go into a tie, this would be a good thing but only one can win.
Cam Ward from Miami has outstanding numbers while leading his team to a 10-2 record. Dillon Gabriel of Oregon has great numbers and finished with his team being ranked No. 1 in the nation and in a position to run the table during the CFB Playoffs. Ward threw for 4123 yards to go with 36 TDs. Gabriel passed for 3558 yards and 28 TDs.
While those are Heisman-worthy numbers, the players ahead of them have done better. Jeanty is breaking NCAA records left and right and heading into the Heisman presentation. His numbers are mind-boggling. Jeanty has rushed for 2497 yards to go with 29 TDs. Jeanty will go down as one of the best RBs in NCAA history when all is said and done.
On the other side of the scope is Travis Hunter and his great play at two high-demand positions. Hunter is arguably one of the best top CBs in College Football. Hunter has 4 INTs this season. While he’s known as a lockdown defender, his play on the offensive side draws just as much praise. On the season, Hunter has caught 92 passes for 1153 yards and 14 TDs.
But who will win the Heisman? The bettors have their money on Hunter at -4000 odds with Jeanty coming in at 2nd with +1100 odds. Gabriel is 3rd at +40000, and Ward is 4th at +50000. Having a stellar QB leading the way has been the way to go lately but there is another path rarely taken. And it seems this is the year that path becomes clearer.
Cam Ward and Dillon Gabriel are solid choices but what Ashton Jeanty and Travis Hunter bring to the table has them out front. All 4 players have done their job to be in this position to walk away with the 2024 Heisman Trophy, but only one will claim the top honors in College Football.
