The Patriots have embraced Jerod Mayo’s leadership, which was lacking during the past four years under Bill Belichick, especially during the 2022-2023 NFL seasons. Mayo has brought about a cultural shift that has created a more welcoming atmosphere within the team, in contrast to the previous stern environment. General manager Eliot Wolf acknowledged this change during the scouting combine. With the addition of quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who is a respected leader, and the release of the backup quarterback, the team has seen positive developments.
The Patriots Have Bought Into Jerod Mayo
Mayo has also implemented a professional operation, moving away from the previous system that relied heavily on personal connections. Belichick’s control over the team waned in the last two years with Matt Patricia and Joe Judge overseeing the offense in 2022. Alex Van Pelt, who has extensive experience on the offensive side, has now taken charge, working closely with Jacoby Brissett to establish an effective offensive system. The hiring of Bill O’Brien in 2023 was not successful, as O’Brien was unable to assemble his own staff. Mayo clarified that Alex Van Pelt is leading the offense, and the team has seen a positive impact from this change.
DeMarcus Covington’s appointment as defensive coordinator is well-deserved, and the team performed admirably against the Bengals. The defense, which has always been solid, performed exceptionally well. It is evident that the players have fully committed to the new direction. It’s clear that there was not the same level of buy-in from the players in the previous year. Belichick’s influence in the locker room had diminished, indicating a need for change.

No Words From Belichick Yet On The Patriots Win On Sunday With Mayo
We still haven’t heard from Belichick on Mayo’s first win yet and it’s Wednesday. There is no excuse he’s on Instagram and can say something anytime. Stop being so salty Bill, the players that won on Sunday were the players you drafted. You even drafted Jacoby Brissett. So if the Patriots lose on Sunday to Seattle will Belichick say something on Monday we’ll have to wait and see. That would be two faced though and gutless. If you aren’t going to say something when they win then don’t say anything when they lose.
I think the Patriots beat Seattle on Sunday. They could even go 3-0 heading in to week 4 against the 49ers.
