Marvel has been known to cause excitement with their TV shows. With the return of Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again, we should expect nothing less. But what would be a great surprise? That’s an easy one for me. Bring back The Defenders.
The last time we saw Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist together, they wreaked havoc on The Hand. However, they were also mourning the loss of Daredevil. They thought Matt died while trying to save Elektra. While viewers know that not to be true, are any of them aware?
Word may have gotten around but if they are staying true to the new show, then bringing them back together even for supposedly the first time would have fans rejoicing.
The main enemy here is Carlton Fisk aka The Kingpin but he’s not coming alone. Bullseye is set to be a part of the storyline as well and that makes 2 baddies that Daredevil has to fight alone. That’s too much for The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen to contend with. He needs help.
Rumors have surfaced that Jessica Jones is set to make an appearance but truth be told, she’s not much of a hand-to-hand fighter. With The Punisher returning as well, he may be all the help Daredevil needs but Marvel loves nostalgia, and bringing The Defenders back is a great way to keep that tradition going.
No one was happy to see any of the series leave Netflix (well maybe Iron Fist) but still, The Defenders had the potential to be a great show that could last a few seasons. Much like the Avengers but on a street level.
Who wouldn’t love to see the strength of Luke Cage go against the strength of The Kingpin? What I’m praying for are no surprise appearances from She-Hulk. That was not a good crossover at all.
From what we know, this new Daredevil is expected to be better than what we had at Netflix. Of all the Marvel shows that aired, Daredevil was by far the best. They set the trend for Marvel back before there was a Disney+.
By bringing it back, they not only set the foundation for street-level fighting, but the opportunity for a team-up like The Defenders to happen again. Then you add in the fact that the Punisher could join forces with them, and that could change things for Marvel and the future of their small screen shows.
This is their chance to make things right again. Loki was a great show. She-Hulk was a failure. Moon Knight had its supporters, WandaVison set the stage for her epic transformation on Doctor Stage and The Multiverse of Madness, and Ms. Marvel set the stage for The Marvels.
While all was not a home run, they still tied into other Marvel storylines perfectly. With Daredevil, the presence of his friends will keep their storyline intact. And if this is indeed the swan song for the former Netflix shows, let them go out with a bang the same way Marvel did for the Avengers.
