Jackson Merrill Is On Pace For Rookie Of The Year

When you look at the San Diego Padres and Jackson Merrill they have a great young leader there. He’s not about individual stats and only cares about wins. His attitude reminds a lot of what Tom Brady did and how the old New England Patriots teams were. Put the team first and only care about wins. Whatever happened during the previous game doesn’t matter it’s about moving forward and doing better the next game. Regardless, of how Merrill does in a game he puts it behind him quickly and comes out the next day and performs well again and again.

Rookie Jackson Merrill Puts Team First

Jackson Merrill doesn’t even care about being on the All-Star Team for the NL or Rookie of The Year Voting. He only cares about the Padres and winning.

“I don’t even care about that stuff,” Merrill said recently. “I couldn’t care less about Rookie of the Year voting or All-Star voting. I care about our team right here. I care about winning.”

Like Tom Brady he too didn’t care about being on the Pro Bowl he only cared about winning week in and week out and winning the Super Bowl. You can say Merrill has that same work ethic considering his comments about winning and putting the team first before anything else. I know I’m comparing different sports but the point is still valid. Whether you play every day or every  Sunday you have to turn the page quickly and improve each game.

Jackson Merrill Had Two Home Runs At Fenway

Jackson Merrill grew up a Red Sox fan and just had full circle moment this past weekend at Fenway Park. He went 7- for -14 with two home runs and five runs batted in. I asked Jennie Merrill how awesome it was to have Jackson hit two home runs at Fenway Park this past weekend.

VIA San Diego Tribune

Absolutely amazing! Loved every minute!

Friday night’s home run was straight into center field and it went right to Jennie Merrill. Then on Saturday he it a homer over the Green Monster. On Friday night Jackson Merrill commented on hitting a home run at Fenway.

“I don’t usually like to talk about something I do. I like talking about the wins and stuff. But that was probably the dopest moment of my baseball career.”, because I’ve watched so many games here. Watched so many times — Bogey, Pedroia, all my guys playing here, growing up a big Red Sox fan — that to come and hit a homer and just round the bases myself, that’s an unreal feeling.

Merrill is currently batting .298 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI’s. The Padres currently will travel to Texas and take on the Rangers starting Tuesday night. I expect Jackson to keep on the hot streak he’s been on all season. He won the starting job in spring training and has ran with it ever since. The Padres do have a lot of injuries but that doesn’t seem to phase them partly because of the young leadership of Merrill and him preforming well on the field.
