First and foremost, I LOVE Apple products. Except for the brand-new virtual headset I have owned it all and yes, I know a lot of times they just slap some new paint on products and roll it out well I am that girl who scoops it up. So, on Monday, we got WWDC24, for those who aren’t into tech this is a Super Bowl-like event for Apple. They roll out new products and improvements for us the consumers to drool over while we try to increase our credit limits. WWDC24 didn’t let us down with BIG updates in terms of Siri and integrating Ai, and some super cool improvements with iOS18. While I try and get my dad on board with letting me use his Amex here are some of my favorite releases coming soon.
iOS18
One of the things my Android friends say is Apple doesn’t let you do any customization. Well, that statement is done. This is what I and many other Apple users have been waiting for. We can frame our widgets around our wallpapers so that it shows off those pics we worked so hard for, or that high-resolution wallpaper we just added. You can customize what widgets are on your lock screen and are no longer handcuffed to just the camera and flashlight. They also added an app dark mode color option which I will be using a LOT. The control center can be set up any way you want for a perfect setup for YOU.
Have an app you don’t want other people to have access to? You can LOCK it and make someone have to authenticate before they can use it. I know what you all are thinking, get your mind out of the gutter with those late-night Tinder and Bumble DM’s. Having the ability to SCHEDULE text messages is MAJOR, we all have busy lives and not forgetting that birthday text, or important meet up is a win for all. This is something I’ve wanted forever and finally it is here. Imagine being able to set texts for the week and being able to take that off the to-do list. Also, you will be able to select the right “tone” for messages which will save a lot of us who may need to chill before hitting send.
Tap To Cash/Photos
Gone are the days of saying i’ll pay you back later or insert an excuse here. This is simple as it gets as you can send money back and forth simply by taping/hovering over that friend’s iPhone. CashApp is cool, but in my opinion, this is better and a feature I can see being used a lot by all Apple users.
Capturing the moments has to include pics or it didn’t happen right? Don’t hate me I don’t make the rules I just follow them. The upgrade to photos is long overdue giving us more customization options and the ability to filter our photos for quicker access. Categories like People, trips, memories and a carousel of your best pics. All us amateur photographers rejoice! As someone who loves to capture moments and then organize the, into short films and stuff this is great since it will cut down on searching for stuff.
Apple Intelligence And Siri
With the latest battles between Congress and TikTok protecting personal information has become a hot topic. More on that later. As far as Siri goes more improvements and you can now even type questions for Siri to answer and the more you use the device the more, she will learn about you and adapt accordingly. We also will see the partnership of ChatGPT and Siri. Writing tools will help with spellcheck, tone, and also putting in order the most emails to the top of the pile. As a college student this is huge with making sure I send the right type of email and get my point across. Throughout the presentation Apple spoke about how our personal data will NOT be stored or made available to Apple. Time will tell as we saw Elon Musk came out and said that Apple devices will be banned from his buildings due to data risks. We will see more from this duo as time moves on and the possibilities are almost endless. ChatGPT will be used for free and be an addition to help users out when Siri can’t.
What’s Next?
Now, Android fans will say that almost all these updates are old news to them, which is fine but like always Apple has waited it out and doing it better. The main takeaway for me was that I can customize my EVERYTHING on my devices. This is deeper than phones, my iPad and Mac can be however I want them. The Ai tools and improved Siri also are welcomed. Gemoji is dope creating emojis is sick as a social media manager having the password widget and sharing it with other team members is a big W in my line of work. Time will tell how safe our personal data will be, but then again who doesn’t think their data is already up for grabs anyway? In the words of Drake “I’m here for a good time, not a long time.” The Apple ecosystem just continues to improve. And all of this is only the start more to come. Today was a good day for tech now about the iPhone 16…
