In Deion Sanders’ first season as head coach for Colorado Football, many things went wrong. The finger can be and has been pointed in every direction from players to coaches to fans and even the media. But one thing was for certain, the Colorado Buffaloes lacked a ground game. That’s where Travis Etienne comes in.
With news that the University of Florida RB will hit the Transfer Portal, should make Sanders happy. It wasn’t that long ago that his brother, Travis Etienne of the Jacksonville Jaguars tweeted that his brother should transfer to Colorado. Since then, the tweet has been deleted but here we are and Colorado Football may get their wish.
Last season, Dylan Edwards and Anthony Hankerson handled the duties. Edwards carried the ball 76 times 321 yards and 1 TD while Hankerson rushed for 319 yards and 1 TD on 78 carries. Needless to say, nothing was working. Shdeue Sanders took unnecessary hits and risks due to the Colorado’s inability to gain any traction on the ground.
It was also noted that Sanders would have to recruit a top back heading into the 2024 CFB season. Now, that player just may drop into his lap. Etienne is looking for a new home and while playing in sunny and warm Florida does seem like a possibility, there is a chance he could get the same recognition while in cold Colorado as the team’s lead back.
Should Trevor Etienne Transfer To Colorado
In his second season with the Gators, Trevor Etienne rushed for 753 yards on 131 carries with 8 TDs while splitting time with Montrell Johnson Jr. Just imagine what he could do as the lead back in the Buffaloes offense. Of course, there is still the issue of the offensive line in Boulder. If Sanders can get the right recruits in and beef that line up, the Buffaloes will make some noise.
Another issue here is that he will have his choice of schools. What Colorado Football has to answer for him is what they will bring different from the other schools he may have on his list. However, playing for Deion and being a reason they can get things back on track will bode well for all parties involved.
Despite announcing his intentions to transfer, Trevor has not given a reason why he chose this route. Maybe it was the touches or the players Florida has coming in. Maybe it was the lack of success the Gators have had during his tenure there. Things at Colorado are not much different but they are on the up and up with a coaching staff and players that are dedicated to bringing this program back. Luckily for them, one of the pieces they were missing, just decided he wanted to transfer.
