Could there be a One Tree Hill reboot in the works? Former star of the show, Chad Michael Murray said he would be interested if it’s done right. With shows and movies getting a new life, why not this one?
The original ran for 9 seasons, reached millions of viewers, and took over the genre that shows like Beverly Hills 90210 and Dawson’s Creek left behind when they went off the air. One Tree Hill at first could be considered cheesy but as the seasons grew, so did the storylines and the allure of the show.
Two sets of brothers at odds. Parents at war. Best friends crossing the lines, basketball, mixed relationships, trauma, school shootings, you make it, One Tree Hill provided. But can they make it in today’s society with the ever-growing social issues? Yes, they can.
When we left the original cast, the kids were having kids. Some have moved on (Lucas and Peyton) while others stayed and remained in Tree Hill to carry on the legacy. But what can the writers do to add to their storylines?
One Tree Hill made it through the high school phase to adulthood which shows such as Riverdale wasn’t able to do. One Tree Hill provided the questionable time jump that has sunk so many other TV dramas throughout their run. And now, if they were to bring the show back, then there would indeed have to be another jump.
When we left One Tree Hill in 2012, the original cast were adults but if the show were to continue, they would have to focus on the kids who should now be in high school or beyond. And that alone still adds a slight problem. Unless they decide to go backward, the last shot we had of One Tree Hill was a Jamie Scoot in his senior year playing basketball. That means a new show will either have to touch on his college or adult years or travel back to his high school years. Either storyline would be great.
Should One Tree Hill Get A Reboot
Taking it back to Jamie, he was the oldest of the Tree Hill kids. And while the original cast went on to have children, they were at least 8-10 years younger than Jamie. So, how would this work? That means that Jamie would be in High School alone. The same goes for college, so they will have to put Jamie as an adult and everyone else well behind him.
Maybe the writers will have him come back as the new basketball coach or something in that regard. But a new OTH without the likable kid, wouldn’t work. Also, the most important detail to it all would be the involvement of Lucas and Peyton. Would both return or just one.? Despite all the success the show had, those two characters did leave One Tree Hill before the show said its final goodbyes.
More than 10 years off the screen but with its wide range of characters, there are more stories to tell. More drama to be unfolded. More love stories and family issues to unpack. Never say never.
