Rob Gronkowski is right Mac Jones should ask for his release from the Patriots. Belichick has done nothing but destroy him mentally between last year’s coaching mess, not building around him, and the benching. Belichick hates quarterbacks and while Brady covered up the holes on offense Mac exposes those holes that Belichick will refuse to fill. Since Josh McDaniel’s Bill Belichick has made is hard for Mac Jones to succeed.
Mac Jones wasn’t a Bill Belichick pick. When Brady was drafted in the sixth round back in 2000 he had to earn his spot on the roster. Brady took the coaching but also had talent around him. Mac Jones was a first-round draft pick who won a National Championship at Alabama and never faced adversity. That is until he was drafted and showed promise his rookie season but then has regressed ever since. Belichick has tested Mac Jones by not hiring an offensive coordinator in 2022, spending money on special teams and defense instead of a number one wide receiver, and the offensive line is the worst in the league. When Gronk said Belichick is playing with Mac’s emotions he’s right. Belichick wouldn’t even say his name during this past offseason during press conferences.
Belichick wanted Mac to do what Brady did all those years. Make everyone better around him. Here is the thing though Mac doesn’t have that skill set and neither does any quarterback in the league. The only one that is starting to is Patrick Mahomes who again has Travis Kelce. What does Mac have? Washed up JuJu Smith-Schuster, DeVante Parker who doesn’t try, Kendrick Bourne is out for the season. Demario Douglas is pretty good. But it’s sad when your best receiver is a sixth-round pick. That’s on roster construction and Bill Belichick.
Belichick was committed to Cam Newton during a bad 2020 season but not Mac Jones during a bad 2023 season
Here is an example of Belichick playing games with Mac Jones. During the 2020 season, the Patriots had a losing streak and Belichick was asked if Cam was still the starting quarterback. His answer
Great question. Really glad you asked that. Cam is our quarterback,” said Belichick, answering the question before Mike Reiss of ESPN.com could fully state it.
Here is Belichick’s answer when asked if Mac Jones is still the starting quarterback after the loss to the Colts.
“We have a lot of things to work on this week as a team. We’ll work through those,” Belichick said at a press conference Tuesday morning, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “That is what we are going to do this week.”
So in 2020 because Cam Newton kissed Belichick’s ass Belichick named him the starter regardless. But because Mac hasn’t kissed Belichick’s ass Belichick plays games. The roster is kind of the same roster bad offensive talent with no offensive line. Yeah, the Patriots won 7 games in 2020 then won 10 in Mac’s rookie season. What happened? Belichick messed with it.
Gronkowski had his ups and downs with Belichick like Mac Jones has
Rob Gronkowski gets it he almost got traded to the Lions when he nixed it. He didn’t get along with Belichick as a player either. Rob Gronkowski retired from the game because of Belichick and then went to Tampa with Brady and won a Super Bowl.
No matter what happens the rest of the way Mac Jones shouldn’t take another snap. It would just be more of a reason for Belichick to humiliate the quarterback and put more of the blame on Jones than himself. The Patriots are playing the 2-8 Giants a week from Sunday who the hell is going to want to win that game? I also don’t think it matters where the Patriots draft because they’ll find a way to mess it up.
Mac needs to go on a team with an offensive-minded head coach and talent at receiver. Not the garbage he has here. I’m telling the Mac side blames Bill Belichick for where Mac is at and so does some of his teammates, probably like Hunter Henry, Kendrick Bourne, and former teammate Jakobi Meyers.
Mac needs to go to another team do well with the talent he would have and stick it to Belichick and the Patriots.
