This recent week of college football was one of epic proportions. Major conference battles, major victories, and a clearer picture of which programs will be in the College Football Playoff. Washington’s massive win over Oregon keeps them in the Top 5 but FSU and OU still have better resumes up to this point. Alabama looks to be the only team with one loss that controls its own destiny but USC, Oregon, and Texas may have something to say about that after this upcoming week.

Last week, Washington State, Maryland, and Wyoming were in the Top 25. This week, they aren’t. We all know the name of the game. Win and in. For Washington and North Carolina, their wins got them into the Top 10 and in the driver’s seat for their conference championships. For losers USC, Oregon, and Texas (last week), they’ll need a little luck and a whole lot of winning to get into the playoff.

Just missing the cut this week are Fresno State and UCLA.

College Football

  1. Georgia. They played the worst team in the SEC and won-handedly. Not much here to report.
  2. Michigan. Another week, another blowout victory. The Maize and Blue continue to roll.
  3. Oklahoma. Spent the week on a BYE, the Sooners will continue to march towards yet another conference championship.
  4. Florida State. Syracuse was no match for the Seminoles, Mike Norvell got the job done early. FSU now has one foot in the ACC Championship Game.
  5. Washington. The Huskies were not too big for the big moment. Defeating Oregon has allowed them to take a massive step towards a CFP birth.
  6. Penn State. This week was light work for the Nittany Lions. They travel to Columbus with the best Penn State roster that James Franklin has ever had in what will be a matchup that will shake up the landscape of the playoffs.
  7. Ohio State. They went to Purdue and rolled the Boilermakers. In a place that used to give the Buckeyes problems, Ryan Day’s men took care of business early and now all eyes are on Penn State.
  8. North Carolina. They took care of a Miami program in peril to join FSU as the two top contenders in the ACC.
  9. Alabama. After a fantastic start, a second-half offensive stall gave Arkansas the opportunity needed to climb back into Saturday’s game. However, Bama made the crucial plays to kill the clock and notch their fourth conference win of the season. The Crimson Tide welcome rival Tennessee this week with Nick Saban looking to redeem himself after last year’s loss.
  10. Texas. The beneficiaries of the BYE, losses by Oregon and USC see the Longhorns back in the top 10.
