New England Patriots minicamp started with the final practice canceled on Wednesday. The defense has been dominant but really everyone wants to know about the offense. It’s already miles ahead of where they were a year ago with zero plan, and Matt Patricia, Joe Judge, and Bill Belichick running things. Now with Bill O’Brien, he has complete control taking this from Alabama that benefits Mac Jones and implementing it into the Patriots’ offense.
Patriots Offense Looked Good In Minicamp
To end minicamp, Mac Jones had a completion percentage of 89% the backup Bailey Zappe had a completion percentage of 78%. Mac has looked comfortable, and the lead quarterback during the off-season between OTA’s and minicamp. I’m gonna keep saying it O’Brien was not brought here for a 4th round backup he was brought here to Get Mac back to where he was a year ago.
Patriots Tight Ends clicking early on in the off-season
Mac has looked good so far throwing to Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki. He’s also had nice passes to Kendrick Bourne and DeVante Parker. Surprise, JuJu Smith-Schuster wasn’t at minicamp because of an injury. After Smith-Schuster signed, Felger and Mazz blamed Mac Jones for not throwing to him yet, only the Smith-Schuster went on vacation five minutes after he signed his contract.
Regardless of Smith-Schuster not being out there the offense looked smooth and ran with much more tempo during minicamp and OTA’s. Bill O’Brien works best in the two tight end sets and did so back in 2010 with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.
Patriots Kendrick Bourne Speaking The Truth about The Offense
Kendrick Bourne has some comments the other day about Bill O’Brien and the offense.
Bourne meant O’Brien knows what he’s doing, unlike the clowns Belichick had running the offense last year. I don’t care if Bourne’s comments piss Belichick off Bourne is right in what he said and Belichick doesn’t take responsibility for being wrong.
Even Mac Jones spoke about Belichick the other day picking his brain about the defense.
Another reason to completely throw away the offense from 2022. Belichick had zero business handling that side of the ball with Patricia and Judge. I don’t care if that comment from Jones pisses Belichick off he’s right.
As far as Trent Brown is concerned he’s probably gone. How do you schedule a flight the day before you’re supposed to be at the facility? He should’ve come back Friday Incase of any delays from the weather or whatever. From the video I saw on Tuesday, he was barely running looked out of shape, and didn’t want to be there.
The only question mark on the Patriots’ offense is the offensive line. Mac does need to be protected in order for it to really gel and succeed. For now, we’ll have to wait and see until training camp.
