There must be some hasty, yet very calculated decisions to be made regarding Season 6 of All American. With The CW cutting shows left and right with their new ownership, All American was one of the few shows given a renewal. But that does not mean that it will last past Season 6. To makes matters worst, fans were told the episodes will be limited. Moving forward, this changes the outline of the storylines altogether.
With Season 5 ending with a possible death, new romances, and a baby, how will they tie all this up in maybe 10 episodes or so? The only way to do this is with a time jump. And for that, there is blame to go around or maybe that was the plan all along.
The high school storyline was understandable. But since college, their freshman year has lasted 2 seasons. Yes, if you didn’t catch it while watching the show, Spencer, Olivia, Jordan, Asher and the rest of the Vortex are still just freshmen. It’s the same issue with All American: Homecoming, the writers have spent so much time focusing on past and new loves, they forget to move the clock.
Now, heading into Season 6 with a possible cancelation following, the writers will have to cram 3 years and possibly more into a few episodes and tie everything up. With the way Season 5 left off, a time jump would be perfect. This will have to go into possibly their senior year or right after college. The writers must show Spencer being drafted into the NFL and what happened between him and Olivia during that time. Did Jordan and Layla get married? How old is Asher and Jaymee’s son? Did JJ get his act together? Did Patience die after she was stabbed by Miko? Did Laura decide to go into teaching and did Coop become a lawyer?
Will There Be A Season 6 Of All American
For most shows, time jumps are dangerous. The wrong move could alienate the loyal fanbase and were left with more answers than questions. But for All American, it makes the most sense due to the storylines and the limited time the show might have left on the air.
Six seasons of a scripted teen drama is a huge deal. Not many expected All American to last this long, let alone produce a spinoff of its own with Homecoming. Losing Billy Baker in Season 5 was a huge blow for the fans and the show but they survived it. There are times when a show has just run its course.
Will Spencer and Olivia get and stay together in Season 6? How much more can we take of Coop looking for her place in the world? Patience is still searching for stardom and at what point do we actually get to see Grace just be happy and not worry about Spencer?
The time is now. I will hate to see one of my favorite shows go off the air but it’s better now than later on when the writing gets stale and we begin to despise some of the characters we’ve grown to love over the last 5 years. If The CW wants to save All American, they must do so with a time jump in Season 6.
