People are making a big deal because the Patriots worked out Will Levis last week. Levis, is from Kentucky and is expected a top 4 quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft. News flash Josh McDaniels also worked out Lamar Jackson in 2018 twice. Did the Patriots end up taking him? Nope, and Brady won the Super Bowl. Will they take this Will Levis kid on Thursday? Nope, if they didn’t draft Lamar Jackson then they will definitely not draft some no-name from Kentucky.
Patriots Aren’t Drafting Will Levis
The Patriots have a quarterback whether you like it or not. Yes, they’ll probably draft a no-name in the fourth round again like last year. But nobody is taking Mac’s job in 2023 there is no competition between him and Zappe. O’Brien was brought here to fix Mac and get him on track. Not for Zappe or draft a career backup from Kentucky in this year’s draft. There should be no judgment on Jones until after this season with Bill O’Brien.
Nobody knew who Will Levis was until last week. But a lot of people knew who Lamar Jackson was in 2018 coming out of Louisville. Don’t believe the hype on sports radio who have given up on Mac because he yelled at Matt Patricia a defensive coordinator and Joe Judge a special teams coach last year. Bill Belichick failed Jones I don’t care about his antics to the coaching staff on the field. He was frustrated and wanted direction. Jones was given zero direction in 2022.
Director of Player Personnel Matt Groh talked last week about the quarterback position when it comes to the draft.
“I was an area scout and nobody said, ‘Don’t worry about evaluating these quarterbacks.’ Don’t worry about that guy at San Jose State. Don’t worry about that guy at Miami.’ We evaluate every position. Quarterbacks (are) certainly a very important position if not the most important position.”
They’ll obviously draft a quarterback late in the draft and I’m sure everyone will be saying he’s the next best thing. People have been spoiled me included over the last two decades. But Brady went to Tampa and Bill got exposed. Robert Kraft drafted Mac in 2021 and Bill ruined his second year and now people have turned on him. Mac has been in the building getting ready for the season and blocking the outside noise.

When the Patriots worked out Lamar Jackson in 2018 twice I’m sure it was motivation for Tom Brady. He was all in and they won the Super Bowl. With the Patriots looking at this Levis kid, it can also be motivation for Mac to work his ass off and have a bounce-back year.
Mac Jones Should Improve This Year
If after this season Mac doesn’t improve, then the Patriots will have to go into the draft in 2024 to select a new quarterback. At which point I would blame Belichick and hope Mac goes to a team that actually doesn’t hang him to dry. However, if he has a good year and makes the playoffs then The Patriots should give him the fifth-year option and talk about his extension. By the time Mac’s contract is up, Belichick won’t be here and Jerod will be head coach.
