To close out 2022, the Phil Sheridan Building in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey is hosting several local independent promotions in a short time span. Fans may know of that building more for its other name, the Mecca. Day 2 of the three days of wrestling would see Pro Wrestling Magic take the spotlight and they came in and put on a very stacked card.
You had several titles on the line for this afternoon of fun. In the days leading up to the event, Pro Wrestling Magic was putting out little messages over on social media saying that fans shouldn’t be late to the Kingdom Come show. I don’t think of the people there, no one thought we would get Adam Kerr vs. Danny Maff for the Pro Wrestling Magic Championship. These two opened up the card and what a way to open it. You have two guys who are rather big. What I loved about this match was the storytelling both competitors did. This is common I’ve noticed when comes to a Maff match.
Adam Kerr ended up winning this war. I also liked how he and Maff embraced each other afterwards. I am very hopeful that we do get Kerr/Maff 2 sometime in the future. Another key moment for me was the match between Mike Donovan and Vinny Pacifco. The stipulation for this match was if Donovan won, Vinny would need to leave Pro Wrestling Magic for good. There were a few moments in which the crowd at the “Mecca” became unglued. At one point, Vinny and Donovan are on a ladder that’s roughly 15ft in height.
They were both on it and Vinny through Donovan off and would end up winning the Pro Wrestling Magic Junior Heavyweight Championship. For this next match to talk about, I need to look at the women’s division of Pro Wrestling Magic. If you have been keeping up with what has been happening in the world of Pro Wrestling Magic, you know that JC Storm has had a massive run with that title for most of 2022. On paper, she had a very tough opponent in Ruthless Lala. I say on paper because the fans were in for a major surprise.
We would see the Notorious Mimi make her long-awaited debut for Magic. You may also know her as Sloane Jacobs from NXT. So now we had a triple-threat match. What made this match memorable for me was what happened after Lala won the title from JC Storm. Lala gets handed the microphone and starts addressing both wrestlers. As she goes to hand Mimi the microphone, Mimi attacks her. I loved this move because now it’s clear of who will be the first person to face Lala.
The final match I want to talk about is what closed out the show. Yes, this was a stacked card and to be honest, any of these matches could have closed out the show. Personally, the right match closed out the show as we had Alex Reiman take on Owner Steve Off for the Pro Wrestling Magic Dark Arts Championship in Three Stages of Hell. The stipulation was it was title versus career. There was no part of the building that was safe from the carnage. This match had everything you would ask for in a wrestling match.
Overall, one of the best wrestling shows I have seen top to bottom. There was a feeling in that room that we were set to see something special that day and we did.
