Chase Winovich out of Michigan drafted in 2019 by the Patriots never really fit their system. Between talking too much to the media, not being able to grasp what the coaches were telling him, to probably it being too strict. The Patriots for Winovich was a bad fit from the beginning. Chase in his three seasons for the Patriots rarely saw the field because he had a hard time understanding the game plan. He announced that on Zolak and Bertrand in a 2020 interview on 98.5 The Sports Hub.
Chase Winovich Didn’t Understand the Patriots Gameplans
Since he decided to make those comments, it was clear his days were numbered in a Patriots uniform. You don’t make those types of comments publicly that is going to get you traded to a bad team like the Browns. That is exactly what happened today as the Patriots traded Winovich for linebacker Mack Wilson who played at Alabama. Who knows if he will be a fit or not hopefully, he pans out. But it was clear they needed to get rid of Winovich. The above quote wasn’t the only one that was bad below is another one he said in the same interview on Zolak and Bertrand in 2020. This was about the teams losing streak.
Chase Winovich didn’t belong in New England
“I always say this, but it’s just like eating an elephant. I’d say one bite at a time.”
He was out to lunch, and thought he was Rob Gronkowski with his character off the field. Gronkowski can play at a high level and act goofy off the field and that is fine because he can actually play. Winovich just acts goofy and says the wrong things and can’t play at a high level. I’m sure he will get plenty of playing time in Cleveland because they don’t have the discipline like the Patriots do. Bill Belichick runs a tight ship and doesn’t stand for comments like Winovich made off the field.
Winovich made a post about leaving New England today:
I hope Winovich takes what he learned in New England and can contribute to the Browns. With the Browns more lenient on what to say to the media he should feel more relaxed and relieved. Maybe, he will be more productive on the field because he doesn’t feel he’s under so much pressure from Belichick and the Patriots in general. The Browns are in the spotlight nationally like the Patriots are so he has that going for him too. I think he was under too much pressure in New England which is why he didn’t produce well. As for the Patriots hopefully, Mack can contribute well to their defense as they still have work to do to get ready for the 2022 NFL Season.
