Coming off a sound 3-0 home victory over Charlotte FC D.C. United headed to Cincinnati for their first road game of the new season. Both clubs had opportunities on goal throughout the 1st and 2nd half but couldn’t get that last touch right. Things appeared to take a turn for the worse when in the 80th minute a red card was shown to Moses Neyman for a tackle on Acosta leaving United with 10 men. Instead of playing for a draw, they continued to push when they could and didn’t allow themselves to be caught playing just defense. This resulted in a final chance at 3 points after a handball was called on Geoff Cameron. It was Ola Kamara who came on in the 2nd half as a sub who stepped up and cashed it in to give the game-winning goal.

Without question, the man of the match was Bill Hamid who was a wall between the posts and enjoyed his 2nd straight shoutout to begin this season. Looking ahead they will face the Chicago Fire at home and shoot for a 3-0 start for a team picked by most to finish anywhere from 10th-12th this is great for confidence. With more questions than answers, 2022 will be anything but dull for the team.

With a mix of unknown players, players with injury bad history, and a tough conference not much is expected from this year’s squad. But a huge part of sports and especially in soccer is having faith is huge. Hernán Losada is a demanding manager and you have to ask will the roster respond to him this year as they did last season? The history of the club is great but those glory years were a LONG LONG time ago. And this fan base is starving for a return to past glory. I will be following all season and sharing my thoughts until the final whistle of the season.

Joe Cardoso

Joe Cardoso here! I’m the epitome of a sports junkie. An alum of the College of Southern Maryland, I received a diploma from the Maryland Institute of Broadcasting (MIB). During my tenure at MIB, I was a news/sports major and had the opportunity to intern at Fox 45 sports and Ravens Radio. I also worked as an overnight board operator for Sports Talk 980 ESPN Radio. I’ve been a total sports fanatic pretty much from the womb. My first love is soccer followed by basketball and then football. My favorite athletes are Kevin Garnett and Marino Rivera and my sports teams are the Yankees, Commanders, Michigan, Wizards, and Chelsea. My passion for sports is never ending. My sister once commented that I would probably follow pig racing if it was a sport!
