In May 1999, Daniel Snyder purchased the Redskins and Jack Kent Cooke Stadium for $800 million following the death of previous owner Jack Kent Cook. At the time, it was the most expensive transaction in sporting history.
Since 2000:
- Washington made the playoffs 4 times.
- Had four winning seasons.
- 12 losing seasons.
- Compiled and 8-8 record, 3 times.
- Snyder has hired 8 head coaches in 20 years.
In 2014, Snyder hired Jay Gruden.
Gruden accumulated a record of 35-49-1. In six years on the sidelines, he only had two winning seasons, 8-7-1 and 9-7. Snyder chose Gruden. This was an organization that had Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, and Matt LaFluer as assistants coaches. Snyder let them walk out of the building.
McVay and Shanahan led their teams to the Super Bowl over the past two years. LaFluer took the Green Bay Packers to the NFC Championship is his first season as a head coach.
On Thursday, a group of 15 female former employees, accused top team executives of sexual harassment and verbal abuse in a damning report on the team’s internal culture. Snyder was not named but the accusations included personnel executives Richard Mann III and Alex Santos, who were fired earlier this month, and Larry Michael, the team’s longtime radio play-by-play announcer.
It has taken years for Snyder to stop using the racist team name. The only reason he stopped was sponsors were boycotting his team. It is time for the NFL to step in, get involved and make Snyder sell the organization. Snyder failed leadership and horrible decisions, on and off the field, have been a colossal failure for 20 years.
