The Milwaukee Bucks were rolling through the Eastern Conference right before the season was suspended. The Bucks were sitting at 53-12 which was best in the NBA. With Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the charge and possibly playing his way to his second straight MVP, the Bucks looked unstoppable. Unlike the Los Angeles Lakers, the Bucks have another year on their hands. The core of the team is signed through 2020 while Antetokounmpo is set to hit free agency in 2021.
Unless something drastic happens, he will resign. But still, losing this season can haunt the Bucks as they were a step ahead of the rest of the NBA. The 2019-20 NBA season is a wrap and with that comes more questions than answers. With a restart, will the Bucks be able to fend off the likes of the Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, and the Los Angeles Clippers as each team will make major adjustments heading into the 2020-21 season?
The Milwaukee Bucks had everything going for them. They were ranked 1st in points scored and 5th in points allowed. They were top 5 in blocks, rebounds, and three-point shooting. How many teams can say they had all the ingredients for a championship run as the Milwaukee Bucks did?
Now, the Bucks can very well bring back the same core but as we’ve seen with sports, it’s hard to recapture that magic in back-to-back seasons. Then the Milwaukee Bucks must deal with the questions surrounding their star player. Will he return or not? For a young team, this could be too much for them to handle and it may be hard keeping a championship focus.
The Chicago Bulls of the ’90s were able to keep a level head and the same core for their run and the same goes for the current Golden State Warriors. But with players switching teams so easily each offseason, this may have been the best shot the Milwaukee Bucks will see.
