72 hours into free Agency, Tom Brady has become a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. For those who follow the NFL, this was not a shock, at all. Many thought Brady would never leave the Patriots, but New England gave him no choice.
- The Browns agreed to terms, with TE, Austin Hooper. The deal will make him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL. The 25-year-old out of Stanford, caught 75 passes for 787 yards and six touchdowns last season.
- DeAndre Hopkins was traded from Houston to Arizona. Hopkins had 104 receptions, 1,165 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns last season.
- Stefon Diggs was traded from Minnesota to Buffalo. Diggs had 63 receptions, 1,130 yards, 6 touchdowns and averaged 17.9 yards per catch.
The Patriots didn’t land one of these players and more importantly, they weren’t aggressive going after wide receivers or tight ends. Brady saw his team stand on the sideline, not acquire players, and then he made his decision to leave New England. The Patriots finished 12-4 last season, but weren’t improving their roster.
Brady has been the very definition of the “Patriot-Way.” He has taken numerous pay cuts to win. He has always been the first one in the facility and often, the last one to leave. His work ethic and professionalism are second to none. The Patriots gave him no choice and no extra help. They forced him out the door and he made the right decision to move on. Remember, Bill Belichick was 36-44 in Cleveland. He was 5-13 in New England before Brady became the starter. The rest is history. He will continue to have success in Tampa Bay and will go down as the greatest quarterback of all-time.
