5) Down goes Wisconsin:
The #6 Badgers were 6-0 coming into this Matchup. The plan was to take care of business against a bad, (2-4) Illinois team, and face off against #4 Ohio State next weekend. Someone forgot to tell The Fighting Illini.
Wisconsin lost 24-23. James McCourt kicked a 39-yard field goal as time expired. Illinois was a 30.5 point underdog. In their previous 6 games, the Badgers let up 29 total points. This is about a bad of a loss as a program can have. Wisconsin simply overlooked Illinois and suffered the consequences.
4) Is Rutgers the worse team in Division 1:
The Scarlet Knights were trailing 42-0, before they scored a touchdown in the 4th quarter. They lost to #20 Minnesota, 42-7.
Rutgers has lost 6 in a row and they have been outscored,237-30. The Scarlet Knights 14 points through 5 games is the fewest by any Big-10 team since 1943. They are embarrassing, disgraceful and they should really look into switching conferences. Their product is awful and their fans deserve better.
3) How Good is Baylor and SMU
#19 SMU beat a good, Temple team, 45-21. They are now 7-0. Baylor went on the road and defeated Oklahoma State, 45-27. The Bears outscored OSU 35-14 in the 2nd half. Both of these programs have had a history of corruption and scandals over the past 25 years. SMU still has tough games ahead on their schedule. They have to play @ Memphis and @ Navy. Baylor plays #5 Oklahoma at home on November 16th, followed by #15 Texas, on November 23rd. Matt Rhule should get votes for coach of the year at Baylor. In his first year at Waco, he was 1-11. Last season they were 7-6 and they are now, 7-0.
2) Jeremy Pruitt is a disgrace:
The Tennessee Volunteers lost to the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide, 35-14. Alabama’s Hiesman Trophy candidate, Tua Tagovailoa left the game in the 2nd quarter with an ankle injury. That should be the story, but it is not. Tennessee’s head coach, Jeremy Pruitt, grabbed his quarterback’s face mask after he turned the ball over leading to an Alabama fumble recovery and touchdown. Volunteer fans have said that Coach Pruitt was being tough on his kid and that is what Tennessee needs. No it isn’t, Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney are tough on their players and they don’t touch them. Pruitt is 7-12 as a head coach and his antics on the sideline, all game, were unhinged and embarrassing. He should be fired at the end of the year and suspended for grabbing his player. I coached for over a decade, I never touched a player, ever.
1) Are the Oregon Ducks the class of the PAC-12?:
The Ducks were down 14 points in the 4th quarter before defeating the Washington Huskies, 35-31. Justin Herbert was 24-38, passed for 280 yards and had 4 touchdown passes. The Ducks defense had been dominating teams over the past 5 weeks. This turned into an offense game and Oregon’s defense made the stops when they had to. The Ducks control their own destiny in the PAC-12. They should win the division and have an outside chance of making the Final Four playoffs. This team can win in a high scoring game or a defensive battle.
Bonus Coverage:
#5 Oklahoma won 52-14 over West Virginia. It was the 14th time in 35 games that Lincoln Riley’s team has scored more than 50 points in a game.
#11 Auburn continues to dominated Arkansas. The Tigers won 51-10, on Saturday. It was their 4th straight victory over the Razorbacks. Their average margin of victory has been 39.5 points against Arkansas. No matter who you play, that is impressive.
#20 Minnesota is 7-0 for the first time since 1960.
#13 Utah shutdown #17 Arizona state, 21-3. It was the first time in 125 games that the Sun Devils didn’t score in double digits.
#3 Clemson is 7-0. They have won 22 straight games dating back to last year. In 5 of their 7 victories, they have scored over 40 points.
#1 Alabama will be without Tua Tagovailoa for the next week or see. If his ankle doesn’t get better they won’t beat LSU on November 9th.
