The New York Yankees made quick work of the Minnesota Twins in the ALDS. The Bronx Bombers swept the Twins, outscoring them 23-7 in the process. Outside of a back and forth start to Game One, the series was never in doubt for the Yankees. The Yankees sweep of the Twins was the first time a 100 game-winner was swept in the ALDS.
Yankees Opponent
The other ALDS series showcases the Houston Astros against the Tampa Bay Rays. Houston won the first two games and it looked as though they would make quick work of the Rays. Tampa did win 96 games this year, and wouldn’t go down without a fight.
After winning Game Three in Tropicana Field, the Rays faced Justin Verlander on three days rest. The Rays would tee off early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Verlander would settle down a bit, until Willy Adames hit a home run off of him in the fourth to extend the Rays lead to 4-0.
Tampa would win Game Four 4-1, sending the series back to Houston for a decisive Game Five. The Yankees will find out if they visit Houston or host Tampa in the ALCS Thursday night. Game Five will see former Pirates Gerrit Cole and Tyler Glasnow square off against each other on the mound.
ALCS Roster Questions
It is being reported that Aaron Hicks is recovered from his elbow injury. A new round for the Yankees, of course, means more roster decisions. CC Sabathia was left off the ALDS roster. Sabathia and Hicks will both be options for the ALCS roster.
The Yankees will have the luxury of being well-rested going into the ALCS. If Hicks is able to return from his injury, the Yankees would also be getting healthy at the perfect time.
