Indeed, it’s been a while since the last Mile High Review. However, one thing is certain. The Mile High Review will always return. Today is the day the Mile High Review returned. The Mile High City never sleeps. So, we have a lot to cover here in this edition. We shall do our best. Without further ado, let’s get this party started and discuss some Denver sports. Today, we’ll check in on the Broncos, review the Nuggets season, and talk some Rockies.
NFL: Broncos
Last we checked in on the Broncos of the Mile High, they just had a new coach. Given the chaos of the Broncos, one might assume he quit already. Luckily, he hasn’t. Still, the Broncos have had a lot of ups and downs since then. Between the draft and some offseason additions/trades, there is much to discuss.
Firstly, let’s talk about Flacco. Yeah, the Joe Flacco. He is now a quarterback for the Denver Broncos. Notice I said “a quarterback. We’ll come back to that in a second. The Broncos acquired the “Super Bowl winning” quarterback from the Ravens for a 4th round pick. Personally, I would have declined, but I’m not John Elway. Furthermore, at least Flacco can claim to be a Super Bowl winning QB. It can’t get worse at the position than it did less year. Flacco, though, can’t get comfortable.
That brings us to the draft. We will start with the downs of that. In exchange for more picks, Elway traded out of the 10th spot. There was an ILB there for the picking, which Denver sorely needed. John decided against it. The Mile High City and I are still upset about that. Still, the Broncos did draft Drew Lock in the second round, who shows a lot of promise. When Flacco fails (and he will fail) we got a good one. What the season holds, we don’t know, but Broncos fans wait with bated breath.
NBA: Nuggets
Unfortunately, the Nuggets’ season did not end as we would have liked in the Mile High, but it’s nothing to be sad about. Year over year, the Nuggets improved. A second-round exit in the playoffs is better than not making the playoffs at all. The inexperience of the young team showed. There is no such thing as moral victories, but I’m proud of this Nuggets team. In addition, I’m proud of Nikola Jokic.
PUT SOME RESPECK ON HIS NAME! Guess who was named 1st team NBA?! The Siberian Marvel: Nikola Jokic! Anyone who says he doesn’t deserve has never seen him play. Jokic is without question the best center in the NBA. Not Embiid. Not KAT. JOKIC! I am prepared to fight anyone over that claim. Come at me! The Nuggets have some improvements to make before next season, but they’re close to being dominate. Can’t wait to see what they do.
MLB: Rockies
The not so much pride of the Mile High. The Rockies. As usual, things looked abysmal to start the season. That’s putting it lightly. They were something like 3-15 and it was not pretty. The Rockies have come roaring back though. Today, they have the chance to reach 500, which they haven’t been since the year began. Let’s take a look at them by the numbers.
Naturally, the best third basemen in baseball leads the team in BA, RBIs, and HRs. That would be Nolan Arenado. Likewise, I’m willing to fight anyone over that claim. As a team, they have 279 runs (10th in the MLB), have a 256 BA (10th in the MLB), 318 OBP (19th in the MLB), and a 450 slugging percentage (8th in the MLB). Offensively, they’re doing well. Pitching? Well, that continues to be an issue. Their 5.03 ERA is 26th in the league. 17 Quality Starts is 25th in the league. 266 BAA is 26th. I’m just gonna stop there. It’s sickening. If the pitching can get on track, they can go places.
