We have some things we need to catch up on. We talk about what items of our Christmas wishlist were fulfilled. In addition, we check in on the Avalanche. So, without further ado, let’s get it!
NFL: Broncos
This, for sure, has to be the most exciting news of the season for fans of the Mile High City. Indeed, the Mile High City is still buzzing with excitement over it. If you recall my Christmas wishlist, one of the wishes was for Vance Joseph to be fired. Well, ask and ye shall receive. The bad man is gone! It was a long time coming but Vance Joseph was fired. Bye Felicia! Now, it’s out of the old and in with the old.
Yes, that may seem confusing, but it’s a good thing. At first, I will admit I was not excited about the new hires by Elway but they’ve already grown on me. Elway sticks with a defensive minded coach with the hire of Vic Fangio. Fangio spent the last season as the DC of the Bears. He goes from having Khalil Mack to Von Miller and Bradley Chubb. The Mile High City is hungry for the Denver defense to be nasty again. Vic will certainly make that happen.
On the other side of the ball, the Broncos welcome back a familiar face: Gary Kubiak. Kubiak took a break from coaching to focus on his health. I can guarantee that players will be excited to have him back. The players are excited. The Mile High City is absolutely excited. This Denver offense has a lot of talent. Gary should bring out the best in players like Lindsay, Sutton, Freeman, and Sanders. Denver is ready for the next season to begin!
NHL: Avalanche
For the Avalanche, all is not well. The Avalanche are currently on a two-game losing streak. To make matters worse, the former pride of the Mile High has lost eight of the last ten games. It may seem harsh to strip them of that title so easily, but that’s how we roll in Denver. When I say we, I mean the collective. I still have for this team.
Offensively, the Avalanche remains one of the better teams in the NHL. They sport 3.43 goals per game average with a 25.9% Power Play. Respectively, that’s 8th and 5th in the league. Defensive consistency is their issue. Their goals against per game average is 22nd (3.18) and their penalty kill is 75.5% (27th). The pessimist in me saw this coming. Still, the sports fan in me has hope that they can turn this around. Only time will tell.
NBA: Nuggets
Now, let’s talk about the real pride of the Mile High. The first place Denver Nuggets are rolling at 27-12. With the 3rd best record in the league, the Nuggets are clicking on all cylinders right now. Arguably, the Nuggets play team basketball better than any team in the league. This is evident by their 27.3 assists per game average. Yes, that’s good for second in the league. Defensively, they only allow 105.5 points per game. Yeah, that’s good for fourth in the league. Furthermore, they’re sixth in rebounding. It’s all thanks to my Christmas wish.
My wish for the Nuggets was health. With the exception of Will Barton still being out, the Nuggets are as healthy as they’ve been all season. Gary Harris is day-to-day with a hamstring string, but Barton is close. Millsap is back and playing well. Unfortunately, there is still not a timetable for Michael Porter, Jr. Still, per Windhorst, he has impressed the team in workouts. The NBA should be on notice. This Nuggets team is hungry. The Mile High City is ready to watch them eat.
