Welcome back to the Mile High Review! Yes, we’re a bit behind the “weekly” schedule. We needed things to marinate for a little bit. A lot going on in the Mile High sports scene. For once, maybe the last time for a while, we only have good news to report. The Rockies season is long gone. Therefore, we’ll be focusing more on the Avalanche. This week, we discuss near perfection. Then, we talk about a bright star. Last, we display some super cautious optimism.
NBA: Nuggets
Once upon a time, we did some profiles of some important Nuggets players. The first of those players was none other than Nikola Jokic. Here is where we talk about near perfection. Last week, Jokic was named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week. Leading this honor was Jokic’s performance against the Suns. Personally, I like to call it Jokic’s 11.
Against the Suns, Nikola had 35 points on 11-11 shooting (3-3 from deep). In addition, he had 11 assists and 11 rebounds to complete the triple-double. Alas, it was just near perfect. While Jokic did not record a turnover, he did miss one free throw; finishing 10-11. He was so close, but he’ll get it next time. So far this season, Nikola is averaging 26.3 PPG, 10 RPG, and 7.3 APG. All while shooting 50% from deep and 63.2% overall. I wasn’t kidding when I said the kid was special. Oh yeah. The Nuggets are 3-0 as well. The highlight being beating the Warriors. Get some, Mile High City!
NHL: Avalanche
A star is born! At least, he is on the national stage. Here in the Mile High City, he’s always been a star. I’m talking about none other than Gabriel Landeskog. The captain of the Mile High City team of the moment. You know the Avalanche must be doing well if I’m giving them any type of praise. Last week, Landeskog has posted ten points. That’s seven goals, three assists, and a plus/minus of plus eight. My mans is on fire! Stats like that will earn you the honor of NHL star of the week, which Gabriel will take with pride as the captain of this strong team.
The Avalanche are first in the Central Division at 6-1-2. That’s good enough to tie for the league lead with 14 points. Furthermore, the 4-1-1 road record is not too shabby either. Shockingly, the Avalanche are giving the Nuggets a run for their money as the Mile High City’s favorite team. Again, I can’t stress enough how extraordinary it is for me to be excited for the Avalanche. Yet, here we are.
NFL: Broncos
Now, the cautious optimism. The Broncos. To their credit, the Broncos did beat the dog crap out of the Cardinals…but it’s the Cardinals. Therefore, losing to the Cardinals was not an option. The defense was lights out. The offense showed promise. But, it was just the Cardinals. I’m not going to be mad over a win. That’s just silly. Still, I’m not going to be over the moon about a win against a terrible team.
They’re too good to be losing to be losing to terrible teams. Vance Joseph, however, still did everything he could to try and lose that game. He just can’t help himself. Kendrick Lamar has hustle and ambition inside his DNA. VJ has losing and bad coaching decisions inside his DNA. Hopefully, he’ll start to change my mind. I doubt it though. Maybe some in the Mile High City are more optimistic than I am.
