New York Yankees: State Of The Empire

We are 76 games into the season and the New York Yankees sit in first place of the American League East. For most of us Yankee fans we would say all is right with the baseball world, but you would be lying to yourself. There are always moves to be made to improve the squad and make a real run at a World Series  title. Let’s look at the season so far and some of the players who have been a big part of Pinstripe Pride wins and losses.

The main topic before the season was how awesome the combo of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton would be, and would any pitcher be safe? They both stumbled somewhat out of the gate but now we are seeing the production we drooled over all winter.

Aaron Judge: .277 Batting Average 20HR 52 RBI
Giancarlo Stanton: .266 Batting Average 19HR 46 RBI

Stanton is starting to hit moonshot home runs at the perfect time on the regular and I for one love it. And the farm system that was the laughing stock of Major League Baseball not so long ago has brought us some good young talent. Recently Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a gem and can build off that performance. Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar are so much fun to watch, and they are still learning their way around the majors.

Lots of questions at the start of the season about Aaron Boone and him taking over one of the most respected and pressure-filled manager jobs in not just MLB but all of sports. In my opinion so far so good for Boone, of course, a couple of questionable moves with the bullpen early on, and he has more than held his own vs the beast knows as the NY media. Oh, and his team is in first place, at the end of the day it’s all about winning right?

Is this version of the Bronx Bombers perfect? NO WAY! Brian Cashman should be VERY active at the trade deadline and help fill some holes before the playoff run. Jordan Montgomery is gone for the season, CC Sabathia is showing his age. Besides Luis Severino, the starters are a crap shoot of what you will get. Pitching is a must. Any baseball fan can tell you how many times they saw a great hitting team have their bats go silent in the playoffs and championship dreams are gone in a flash. Names like Cole Hamels, Tyson Ross or maybe even Chris Archer come to mind.

It has been a good start to the year for the Yankees and as the July 31st trade deadline comes I want to see what type of talent they can get to help make this a season to remember. How many Yankees make the All-Star game this year? That is just one of many questions still to be answered, until next time Pinstripe Pride fans. Want to talk more Yankees or MLB with me? Joe Cardoso

Joe Cardoso here! I’m the epitome of a sports junkie. An alum of the College of Southern Maryland, I received a diploma from the Maryland Institute of Broadcasting (MIB). During my tenure at MIB, I was a news/sports major and had the opportunity to intern at Fox 45 sports and Ravens Radio. I also worked as an overnight board operator for Sports Talk 980 ESPN Radio. I’ve been a total sports fanatic pretty much from the womb. My first love is soccer followed by basketball and then football. My favorite athletes are Kevin Garnett and Marino Rivera and my sports teams are the Yankees, Commanders, Michigan, Wizards, and Chelsea. My passion for sports is never ending. My sister once commented that I would probably follow pig racing if it was a sport!
