Every season in college football there is a week that wreaks havoc on the polls. This past Saturday was the week of upsets.
5 Things We Learned About Week 7 In College Football:
#5) #16 Miami loses to Virginia: When Miami coach Mark Richt was coaching at the University of Georgia he had a reputation of never winning the “big game.” He never played in a national championship and he never took his team to the Final Four Playoffs. The Hurricanes did not show up to play on Saturday and that is directly on their head coach. If you look at these rosters, Miami has about 15-20 players that will be drafted, Virginia has about 5. Coach Richt is going to start feeling the heat in Miami. Elite programs don’t lose these games.
#4) The Tennessee Volunteers win a big game: Going into Saturday’s football game against the #21 ranked Auburn Tigers, The Vols had lost 11 straight SEC games. That was the longest losing streak against SEC opponents this team has had, since they starting playing football in 1891. Tennessee was once an elite program and head coach Jeremy Pruitt is taking this team in the right direction. Big win for Vols Country.
#3) #13 LSU upsets #2 Georgia: LSU led 16 -0 at halftime and scored 17 points in the 4th quarter to upset the #2 ranked Bulldogs. This is a great win of Ed Ergeron. As for Kirby Smart, he has to seriously think about who his quarterback will be moving forward. Jake Fromm looked lost once again. He was 16 for 34 with two interceptions. Fromm is not a championship winning quarterback and that is a problem for Georgia Fans.
#2) Mario Cristobal is building something new in Orgeon: When the Ducks hired Cristobal my first reaction was why? Cristobal had a career record of 27-47 at FIU. The #17 Ducks defeated the #7 Washington Huskies 30-27 in overtime. This is not Chip Kelly’s Orgeon Ducks anymore. This team still has a ton of speed but they are a ground and pound offense. Cristobal was a former offensive lineman for the Miami Hurricanes and he has brought that “lunch pail” blue-collar mentality to Eugene. The Ducks rushed for 177 yards against a tough, physical Washington defense. Cristobal has changed this teams identity and it is working. Oregon is 5-1 and right now, they are the best team in the PAC-12.
#1) Is Texas the best team in the Big -12? The Longhorns defeated Baylor 23-17 and #6 West Virginia lost to Iowa State 30-14. Texas is now 4-0 in conference play and control their own destiny.
Bonus Coverage:
Alabama’s quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has not thrown a pass in the 4th quarter through the teams first seven games. The Crimson Tide have been so dominant, their QB doesn’t even play the final 15 minutes.
#8 Penn State lost at home to Michigan State 21-17.
#12 Michigan dominated #15 Wisconsin 38-13 at home on Saturday Night. Michigan still has to play #24 Michigan State, #18 Penn State and #2 Ohio State.
USC upsets #19 Colorado 31-20. USC is 4-2 but they are in 1st place in the PAC-12 South.
#14 Florida beat Vanderbilt 37-27. Quarterback Feleipe Franks now has 15 touchdown passes. That is the most by any Florida quarterback since Tim Tebow had 21 TD passes in 2009.
