5) We have seen this act before at Michigan:
The #19 Michigan Wolverines defeated the #14 Iowa Hawkeyes, 10-3. It is always better to win ugly than lose pretty in any sport. But, Jim Harbaugh doesn’t seem to get it. You can’t win a National Championship with a game manager at quarterback. Harbaugh’s offense philosophy is straight out of the 1980s. The Wolverines offensive efficiency is ranked 83rd in the country.
Over the past 5 years, the winning team in the national championship scored, 42,45,35,26 and 44 points. Michigan will never be an elite program with Coach Harbaugh.
4) UCF is done:
In 2015, the UFC Knights had a record of 0-13. They hired Scott Frost and in his first year, he had a record of 6-7. His 2nd year, the Knights went 13-0. Frost is now the head coach of Nebraska and we are seeing the program going backwards. #18 UCF lost to Cincinnati, 27-24. Josh Heupel won last year with Frost’s players. We are seeing the eroding of a program because Heupel is nowhere near the coach Frost is. UCF is a top 25 team but under Frost they were top 10.
3) Florida dominates Auburn:
The #10 Florida Gators throughly controlled the Auburn Tigers in their 24-13, Homecoming victory. Auburn’s freshman quarterback, Bo Nix had a terrible day. He was 11-27 for 145 yards and 3 interceptions. Coming into this game, Auburn averaged 250 yards of rushing offense. Florida held them to 269 total yards. The Gators made all the plays when they had to but it doesn’t get any easier for Florida. They travel to the undefeated, LSU Tigers next Saturday night.
2) Who is the best quarterback in the Country:
Joe Burrows(LSU)… has completed 80% of his passes,22 total touchdowns and only 2 interceptions.
Jalen Hurts(OKLAHOMA)… has completed 77.6% of his passes, 17 total touchdowns and 1 interceptions
Tua Tagovailoa(ALABAMA)…has completed 76.4% of his passes, 23 passing touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Alabama has scored touchdowns on 52% of their possessions.
Justin Herbert(OREGON)…has completed 60% of his passes, 15 touchdowns 1 interception. Herbert has 33 straight games where he has thrown a touchdown pass. That is the best streak in college football right now.
If Hurts takes his team to the Final Four playoffs, he would get my vote for the Heisman Trophy.
1) It is time to move on from these coaches:
Manny Diaz of the Miami Hurricanes has not gotten it done. The Canes are 0-2 in conference play. The lost to rebuilding North Carolina and a desperate Virginia Tech team. Miami should look elsewhere immediately. This was once a unique program and schools like UCF and Florida are out recruiting Miami.
Willie Taggert of Florida State has a career record of 55-59. FSU should win 8 games just on their talent alone. He has done a terrible job with the 3-2 Seminoles. If Taggert is your answer as a coach, you need to change the question.
Chip Kelly needs to go ASAP. UCLA is 1-2 in the PAC-12 and 1-5 overall. They lost to Oregon State at home, 48-31. The Oregon State Beavers recorded their first conference win in regulation for the first time since 2016. Kelly was 33-4 in the Pac -12 at Oregon. Those days seem like decades ago. Fire him ASAP.
Bonus coverage:
The Best game of the regular season is in Week 7. The Red River Showdown. 12PM on Fox TV. #6 Oklahoma vs. #11 Texas. I like the Sooners to win this game 37-30.
The Big Ten could have the best offensive team in the country, Ohio State, and the best defensive team in the country, Wisconsin. In 5 games the Badgers have shutout three teams and have only giving up 29 total points.
The Sports Whisperer’s Top 5:
