#5) Penn State is a scary team:
The Penn State Nittany Lions went into Maryland and defeated the Terrapins, 59-0. Penn State has outscored their opponents… 79-7,45-13,17-10 and 59-0.
James Franklin sent a message with this win. His team is fast, aggressive and they are “ball- hawks”. Penn State could compete for the Big 10 Championship.
#4) Is Oklahoma the best team in college football?
The Sooners are 4-0. They have scored 49,70,48 and 55 points. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is completing 77.6% of his passes,17 total touchdowns and only 1 interception. Oklahoma’s coach, Lincoln Riley, is the quarterback whisperer. He took over a legendary program and replaced a great coach in Bob Stoops. Under Riley, Oklahoma has gotten better.
#3) The SEC keeps getting better:
#2 Alabama cruised to a 59-31 over Ole miss. Tua Tagovailoa threw for 6 touchdown passes and ran for another score. #7 Auburn defeated Mississippi State. 56-23. #9 Florida shut-out Townson State, 38-0. Georgia is 4-0 and LSU is 4-0. These 4 teams could all win a national championship. The SEC is that good.
#2) Growing pains for UCLA and Nebraska:
In front of a crazed,Nebraska crowd, the Cornhuskers lost to #5 Ohio State 48-7. Ohio State led 38-0 at halftime. An unranked Nebraska team, hasn’t beat a top 5 team since 1977, when Tom Osbourne’s team beat #1 Alabama.
The UCLA Bruins came back from 32 points down last week to beat Washington State, on the road, 67-63. On Saturday night, the Bruins lost to Arizona 20-17.
Both Scott Frost and Chip Kelly have young teams who don’t know how to win consistently. Give these two coaches 2-3 years and both programs will be competing for conference championships.
1) Is Clemson overrated?
Clemson has looked bored in their first few games of the season. They beat North Carolina on Saturday 21-20. NC’s head coach, Mac Brown went for the two point conversion at the end of the game to try and win it. The Tar Heels came up short. It was the right move to make. Brown is trying to build a winning team in Carolina and he coached a great game. Clemson’s quarterback, Trevor Lawrence has taken a step backward. Last year as a freshman, he completed 64% of his passes, had 30 passing TD’s and only 4 interceptions. This season, he is completing 61% of his passes has 12 total touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

Duke (3-1) Went on the road and defeated VA Tech (2-2),45-10. It was the Hokies worst home conference loss since 1950, when they were in the Southern Conference, and lost 54-0 to William and Mary as part of an 0-10 season. For Duke, it’s the largest road win in ACC play since 1989 (41-0 UNC).
Herman Edwards and Arizona State upset #15 California 24-17. The Sun Devils have now defeated two top 25 teams on the road in the past three weeks. That is not easy to do with a young team. Edwards is building something special in AZ.
USC takes one step forward and two steps back. The Trojans were 3-1 going into their game with Washington. They lost 28-14 but were dominated in the first quarter 14-0. USC is at a crossroads with their program. It might be time for a coaching change, again.
Right now, the 4-0 Wisconsin Badgers, are the best defensive team in the country, did anyone see that coming?
Ohio State’s, Justin Fields, has 16 touchdowns 0 interceptions on the season.
