On Saturday, Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher grabbed one of his players by the face mask. Coach Fisher said he had no regrets about grabbing him. “I was trying to get his attention. I was not trying to berate him. If you look at the film when I did it, I pushed him, I tapped him right on the head and I said, ‘We can’t have you out of here, buddy. We’ve got to keep you in this game.’ And I turned and walked away.”
I coached college and AAU for ten years. I won over 85% of the games I coached. Under no circumstances, did I ever touch a player, ever.

5 Things We Learned About Week 5 In College Football:
5) #3 Clemson escapes: Kelly Bryant was 16-2 as the staring quarterback for Clemson. In his first year as a starter, he lead the Tigers to a Final Four appearance. Bryant transferred when Dabo Swinney announced Trevor Lawrence will now be the team’s starting quarterback. On Saturday, Lawrence left the game with an injury and Chase Brice came off the bench and helped his team defeat Syracuse 27-23. Chase was 7 for 13 for 83 yards and interception. If Lawrence misses a few weeks, Clemson could be in jeopardy of making the Final Four.
4) Is #5 LSU overrated? The Tigers are 5-0 and are receiving very little fanfare outside of Louisiana. LSU has a brutal schedule coming up. They still have to play at #22 Florida, home against #2 Georgia, home against Mississippi State, home against #1 Alabama and at Texas A&M. Ed Orgeron’s team could lose 3 or 4 games. I would be shocked if they finish in the top 10.
3) Is #19 Oregon the best team in the PAC-12? The 4-1 Ducks defeated #24 California 42-24. It was the 1st time in over a six years that Oregon won when traveling to Cal’s home field. Heisman Trophy Candidate Justin Hebert was 16 for 22 for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns. He had several throws that made NFL scouts drool. The Ducks play #10 Washington next week, if they win that game, they could be looking at 10 or 11 wins. They don’t play another ranked opponent for the rest of the year.
2) #12 West Virginia is in a great position to win the Big 12: The #12 Mountaineers went into Lubbock Texas and beat #25 Texas Tech 42-32. WVU led 35-10 at halftime and hung on late in the 4th quarter. Heisman candidate Will Grier was 27-41 for 370 yards and 3 TD’s. The Mountaineers still have to play at #19 Texas, at #25 Oklahoma State and at home vs. #7 Oklahoma. Their destiny is in their own hands.
#1) Sorry, James Franklin, Penn State is not great: #9 Penn State lost to #4 Ohio State,27-26. On 4th and 5, trailing by one point, Penn State handed the ball off to running back Mile Sanders and Ohio State stopped him. Sanders rushed 16 times for 43 yards, averaging 2.7 yards per carry. Quarterback Trace McSorley passed for 286 yards, 2 touchdowns and rushed for 175 yards. Yet, Franklin took the ball out of his hands and let someone else try and make a play. It was a terrible call. In his press conference the head coach said that his team is great but the won’t be satisfied. Sorry coach, you aren’t a great coach until you win a championship.
Bonus Coverage:
#8 Notre Dame is 5-0, they play at #24 Virginia Tech next week. That is the only ranked team remaining on their schedule
#17 Kentucky is 5-0 and they are playing as well as any team in the country.
#13 UCF is 4-0. They haven’t scored less that 38 points in 4 games. UCF could go undefeated for 2 straight years and still not make it to the Final Four players. If that happens, college football has to re-evaluate their playoff format.
#16 Miami is 4-1. They should win the rest of their games on their schedule. Mark Richt is a very good coach.
#7 Oklahoma will play #19 Texas in the Red River Shootout on Saturday. For Texas to win they are going to have to score over 38 points.
