There is a song by a group called Social Distortion called Ball & Chain. There is one lyric in that song that applies to certain college football coaches. “You can run all your life but not go anywhere”
5 Things We Learned About Week 3 In College Football
5) Miami, I warned you about Mario Cristobal:
I watched Cristobal bring in loads of talent to the University of Oregon. I also watched him turn Justin Herbert into a game manager. Cristobal coaches like it is 1975 with his offense. He will run on 1st down, run on 2nd down and then pray for his quarterback to bail him out on 3rd and long situations. He is beyond conservative on the offensive end. He will get elite players at Miami but will always be outcoached as they play better schools. The Hurricanes lost to Texas A&M, 17-9. At the start of the second half, the Canes were on offense and their coaching staff called a timeout with 13 minutes left. How do you not have your first possession coming out of half-time scripted? It was an embarrassing performance by a veteran head coach.
4) Kansas State takes a huge step backward:
In five years at North Dakota State, Chris Klieman compiled a record of, 69-6. In 5 years, he played in 4 National Championships games and won 4 titles. It has not been the same at Kansas State. The KState football team lost to Tulane, 17-10 on Saturday, at Bill Snyder Family Stadium despite entering the game as a heavy favorite and playing in front of a large home crowd. They are now 2-1 on the year and Klieman is 22-17 in Kansas.
3) Is Chip Kelly in trouble at UCLA?:
Kelly is entering his 5th season as the Bruins head coach. Last season he had his best record at UCLA. The team was 8-4 and 6-3 in the PAC-12. The Bruins have started the season 3-0 after beating South Alabama, 32-31. The Fan base is not buying into this team or Kelly. Attendance was 29,344, the second-smallest crowd for a UCLA game in Rose Bowl history after the record-low was set two weeks ago during the season opener. Boosters, Alumni, and TV stations hate seeing an empty stadium. Imagine if UCLA was 0-3, no one would show up.
2) Why does the National Media, never talk about Kentucky Coach, Mark Stoops:
The Wildcats are now 3-0. 2 weeks ago, Mark Stoops became the winningest coach in Kentucky football history with the Wildcats’ 26-16 victory at Florida, breaking Paul Bryant’s record that weathered 11 coaching changes across 69 years. Mark Stoops keeps winning despite not having the best recruits in the country. He finds a way to win every year with lesser talent than the likes of Alabama and Georgia. The man can flat-out coach, prepare, and makes great adjustments during the game. He deserves more credit.
1) Oregon dominates #12 BYU,41-20:
3 weeks ago, the Oregon Ducks got embarrassed on National Television losing to the Georgia Bulldogs,49-3. Fans were questioning if first-year coach Dan Lanning was ready for the job and screaming for transfer quarterback Bo Nix to be benched. The Ducks were a better team from start to finish against a very good BYU squad in Eugene. The final score was not indicative of how lopsided this game was. It was 34,7 going into the 4th quarter. Bo Nix threw for two touchdowns and ran for 3 more scores. Lanning does not have the most talent in the world right now in Oregon, but he is a great recruiter and will build a winner over the next few years. BYU was 5-1 against ranked opponents coming into this contest.
