5 Things We Learned Week 2 in the NFL
The Los Angeles Chargers Blow another game:
What if I told you an NFL team had…
- 12 penalties
- A missed FG
- 2 interceptions
- 2 TD’s taken off the board because of penalties.
One would assume that this team lost 40-17. The Chargers lost on a game winning field goal to the Dallas Cowboys, 20-17. After two weeks, Los Angeles leads the league in penalties. Whatever rookie coach, Brandon Staley is selling, his players are not buying. This is a horribly coached team. If it wasn’t for Justin Herbert keeping plays alive and creating, this team would be a lot worse off. Dallas should have won this game by 17 points.
Is it time to move off of Tua Tagovailoa?
The Miami Dolphins lost to the Buffalo Bills, 35-0 on Sunday. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was carted off the field with a rib injury. In 2018, The Arizona Cardinals drafted Josh Rosen with the 10th overall pick in the draft. The following year they drafted Kyler Murray. They realized they made a mistake and made and immediate change the following year. Should Miami do they same thing and trade for Deshaun Watson. I say yes, Yes. YES!!!
Bill Belichick continues to dominate rookie quarterbacks:
The Patriots went on the road and defeated the New York Jets, 25-6. Zach Wilson was “Seeing Ghosts” and threw 4 interceptions. Belichick is now 22-6 against rookie quarterbacks. He continues to make things extremely uncomfortable for young QB’s and the Patriots capitalize on them. Mac Jones continues to play well. He was 22-30 for 186 yards. He is managing the games and giving his team a chance to win. He reminds me of Phil Simms.
How bad will it get in Jacksonville?
The Jacksonville Jaguars have started the season, 0-2. Trevor Lawrence has thrown 84 times in two games. Their leading rusher, James Robinson has rushed 16 times in two games. This team looks like they have no identity, no continuity, and no life. There are already rumors that the suits running the Jags do not like Urban Meyers condescending attitude. Meyer thinks he is the smartest person in the room, he is not. He hired failed coordinators, Darrell Bevell to run the offense and Joe Cullen to run his defense.
Here come the Carolina Panthers:
In my pre-season NFL special, on The Full Monte Sports Show, I had the Carolina Panthers and the Philadelphia Eagles as my two surprise teams. The Panthers dominated the Saints from start to finish on Sunday. Carolina was up 17-0 at halftime and defeated New Orleans,26-7. Matt Rhule has this young defense playing well and Sam Darnold has been impressive at quarterback. The Former New York Jets quarterback is competed 68% of his passes, averages 292 yards per game and has 4 total touchdowns and 1 interception. Rhule should win coach of the year.
Parting shots:
The Colts are 0-2 but better than their record.
The Raiders are 2-0 but worse than their record.
Do not be surprised if the Steelers finish 3rd or 4th in the AFC North.
Tom Brady should win the MVP. Over the past last 10 games: 10-0, 31 TDs-6 INT.
