5 Things We learned About week 1 in the NFL:
5) The Tennessee Titans are in trouble:
The Titans hosted the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. They were down 24-6 at halftime and that was not an indication of how badly they played. They lost the Cardinals, 38-13. Kyler Murray did whatever he wanted against a terrible defense. He was 21-32 with 5 total touchdowns. Derek Henry had 17 carries for 59 for the home team. Mike Vrabel could be on the hot seat if this team doesn’t win the weakest division football.
4) Welcome back Christian McCaffery:
The Carolina Panthers defeated the Jets 19-14 in their home opener. McCaffrey played very well in his first game back from a season-ending injury last year. It was the 5th time that the running back has 80+ rushing yards and 80+ receiving yards in a game. The Panthers could surprise a lot of teams this season.
3) Are the Philadelphia Eagles the best team in the NFC East?
- The Dallas Cowboys have lost 17 straight games where they do not score 30 or more points.
- The Washington Football Team lost their starting quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick for a few weeks.
- The Giants have the worst offensive line in football and a quarterback who continues to fumble.
The Eagles have a new coach, a new WR and Jalen Hurts is beginning his first season as the team’s starting quarterback. None of that seemed to bother them on Sunday. Philadelphia played a great game, defeating the Atlanta Falcons, 32-6. DeVonta Smith and Jalen Reagor both caught touchdown passes. Hurts completed 27-35 passes, threw for 264 yards, and had 3 touchdown passes. The Eagles could be the sleeper team in the NFL.
2) The Steelers shut down the Bills:
Pittsburgh was trailing 10-0 halftime against Buffalo. Their offense could not move the ball and their defense looked like they would be worn down in the second half. Coach Mike Tomlin made the adjustments at halftime and the Steelers outscored buffalo, 23-6 in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Pittsburgh made plays on offense, defense and blocked a punt on special teams to secure the victory. Mike Tomlin’s team is now 5-1 on the road against Buffalo.
1)Is Patrick Mahomes simply the best?
The Cleveland Browns outplayed, outcoached, out schemed the Kansas City Chiefs for most of the game on Sunday. The Browns led 22-10 at halftime before giving up 13 points in the 4th quarter and lost, 33-29. Patrick Mahomes threw for 337 yards and 3 touchdown passes. Mahomes is now 11-0 in September with 35 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Since 1999, Cleveland is 1-21-1 in season openers.
Bonus coverage:
Something is not right with the Green Bay Packers. All this off-season drama with Aaron Rodgers may be taking a toll on the team.
Something is very right with Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. They dominated a good Indianapolis Colts team from start to finish.
Tom Brady has 15 week 1 wins. That is the most in the NFL Since 1950.
Justin Herbert was 13-16 on 3rd down for 160 yards, 11 first downs, and 1 touchdown on Sunday against the Washington Football Team.
