5 Things We Learned about College Football:
It is time for Mario Cristobal to go:
The #3 Oregon Ducks lost to an inferior Stanford football team in overtime, 31-24. The Penalties, the play calling, and execution were atrocious. The Ducks have a plethora of talented wide receivers on their roster, yet the leading receiver was Travis Dye, a running back. Cristobal’s offense has no creativity and no surprises. They run the ball up the middle from start to finish. If the head coach of the Ducks had his way, they would run 55 times a game. He is a great recruiter, but he coaches like it is the 1950s. The Oregon fans deserve better.
Is Georgia the best team in the country?
#2 Georgia hosted the undefeated #8 Arkansas Razorbacks, and the game wasn’t even competitive. Georgia led 24-0 at halftime and won the game 37-0. In 5 games, Georgia has given up 20 points on the year. This defense is fast, physical, and deep. Most experts say the Bulldog’s offense is their weakness, but they are averaging 41 points per game. This team can compete with anyone, and they could win the National Championship.
#5 Iowa will take on #4 Penn State on Saturday
The Hawkeyes intercepted Taulia Tagovailoa 5 times as they defeated Maryland, 51-14. Iowa’s defense has been one of the best units in all of college football over the past two seasons.
Penn State defeated Indiana, 24-0. This Nittany Lions team is only giving up 12 points per game. Next Saturday’s showdown should be a low-scoring affair that has huge implications on the Final Four playoff picture. I am taking Iowa to win the game.
Kentucky is 5-0 after upsetting #10 Florida:
Trevin Wallace returned a blocked field goal 76 yards for the go-ahead touchdown late in the 3rd quarter. The Wildcats beat the Gators at home for the first time since 1986. Kentucky is 5-0 for the first time since going 10-3 in 2018 and just the 4th time in the past 70 years.
#7 Cincinnati controls their own destiny:
The Bearcats went into South Bend and dominated #9 ranked Notre Dame from start to finish. Cincinnati won, 24-13 in their first top 10 regular-season match-ups in program history. Senior quarterback Desmond Ridder was 19-32 for 297 yards and 2 TDs. Notre Dame’s streak of 26 home wins was stopped on Saturday. The Bearcats control their own destiny. If they win outright, they will go to the Final Four Playoff.
Bonus Coverage:
#19 Oklahoma State remained undefeated after beating #21 Baylor, 24-14.
#1 Alabama steamrolled #13 Ole Miss, 42-21. This game was not competitive at all. The Crimson Tide were up 28-0 at halftime.
#6 Oklahoma will face (4-1) Texas in the Red River Showdown on Saturday.
