5 Things We Learned About Week 8 in College Football
5) Do not count Alabama out:
2 Weeks ago, Alabama lost to Tennessee, 52-49. Alabama played terribly and still had a chance to win on the road against a top 5 team. Nick Saban’s team bounced back to beat Mississippi State, 30-6. Alabama can still win the SEC and they are still in the hunt to play for the National Championship.
4) Put Bo Nix on the Heisman watch:
The Oregon Ducks have won 6 straight games. On Saturday in front of their 3rd largest home crowd, Oregon dominated the #9 UCLA Bruins, 45-30. Nix is not the same quarterback we watched at Auburn. He is completing 71% of his passes, he has 17 passing touchdowns, 8 rushing touchdowns and, only 3 interceptions. 2 of the interceptions came in week 1 against the Georgia Bulldogs. If the Ducks win the PAC-12, Bo will be a Heisman finalist.
3) Brian Kelly will turn LSU around:
#7 Ole Miss went into Baton Rouge on Saturday with a 7-0 record. LSU trailed 20-17 at halftime but outscored the Rebels, 28-0 in the 2nd half. LSU won the game.45-20. Brian Kelly made the adjustments and led his team to an impressive SEC victory. LSU fans need to give Kelly another year or 2 before his team competes for an SEC Title.
2) Is anyone paying attention to # 8 TCU?
The TCU Horned Frogs were trailing 28-17 at halftime to #17 Kansas State. They outscored The Wildcats 21-0 in the 2nd half to win 38-28. Sonny Dykes replaces a legend on the sidelines in Gary Patterson. Dykes has this team in the lead to capture the Big 12 Title. If they run the table, they will be in the Final 4 playoff. No one saw this coming.
1) Is Clemson in trouble?
#5 Clemson defeated no. 14 Syracuse 27-21 at home. This victory was not without controversy. Starting quarterback DJ Uiagaleilei was benched for backup quarterback Cade Klubnik. Uiagalelei was 13 for 21 for 138 yards and 2 interceptions. Clemson will not be a Final Four team if they can not find their offense. Dabo Swinney’s team is ranked 150th in the nation, only scoring 19 points per game. The question must be asked…Is Clemson overrated?
