What are your New Year’s Resolutions for 2024? Wait don’t tell me, keep it to yourself. As they say, that’s the way to make it stick, right? Nope, only you can make it work and while we may prepare ourselves for the expected and unexpected, trying to maintain those goals is always hard.
Change is good. It’s part of life and every year, we look to leave the bad vibes behind from the previous year. It’s a personal goal for us but it’s a business goal for others. We want to save money, while they want us to spend it. We want to ignore certain factors in our lives while other’s main goal is to disturb the peace. It’s a constant battle, and yet, we all look forward to achieving our New Year’s Resolutions.
Here are 3 New Year’s Resolutions we will fail at in 2024.
Hit The Gym
This has to be No. 1 for most. The New Year is the perfect time to get or stay in shape. Everyone wants that body for the summer but it comes at a cost. Not so much out of pocket as most gyms will run an amazing promotion to begin the new year, but with your time. They want your money. They may not want you in their gym but they do want your credit card information.
Planet Fitness will run a promotion for $10 per month. Sounds good, right? Hell yeah, it does if that’s your goal for the new year. If you’re ready to get into that two-piece bikini or show the abs off at the beach, then this is for you. However, what those companies are expecting is for you to give up after 2-3 months.
Most people flock to those deals and may hit the gym 2-3 days after work. Then reality sets in. Kids start having after-school activities. Friends start popping up over here house. Now, all the free time you had for the gym is being taken up by things you didn’t see coming at the end of the old year. But guess who saw it coming? Planet Fitness. And they are hoping you forget to cancel that $10 monthly automatic draft from your account. Now they’re making money off the people who gave up or forgot.
Reduce Stress
If you live in this crazy world, stress just comes with the territory. Stress is a part of the NYC culture as much as Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwiches. But yet, we still fool ourselves into thinking we can reduce it. How can you do that? Minding your business and learning the word “no” seems like a perfect marriage, however, that’s easier said than done.
What Are Your New Year’s Resolutions
Family, friends, kids, spouses, and co-workers are everywhere you turn. While you want peace, some of their jobs are to test your patience. Maybe a trip to the mountains can help you but that can only last but so long. Working out can also be seen as a way to reduce stress but look at what I mentioned above as far as working out.
Living a stress-free life is a myth. It’s one of the good New Year’s Resolutions to have but the truth is, it’s also impossible to do due to many factors. But good luck with the meditation.
Manage Money Better
This is the funniest New Year’s Resolution of them all. We all want to save money. But how many of us can do it for an entire year? I didn’t think so. Once again, this is something that comes about especially after the Christmas season. Think about how all that is set up. First, it’s Thanksgiving. That may involve traveling and lots of food costs. Then you have Christmas which is the most expensive of all the holidays. But wait, it goes deeper.
You even sit and notice that all your family and friend’s birthdays seem to be around the same time and they all just happen to be around the middle of the year. As soon as you think you can save some extra cash, you have birthdays and then the two big holidays. Good luck with that New Year’s resolution. But there’s still more.
Here is the one that will have you ram your head through a window. Tax Returns. Depending on when you do them, they could come rather early. Now you have a bank account that’s calling your name to spend. And just when you think you have it under control, here comes the new car ads. Cheaper down payment on homes. Cheap Vacation Packages for the summer. These companies know and understand what’s going on. You want to save money but their goal is to have you spend it.
