Can you believe it? Well, honestly, I’m a Braves fan and I still can’t truly believe it. I was a naysayer; and at the deadline, when they didn’t make a move to sure up their bullpen, I assumed the Phillies would run away with the NL East. But these young guys pulled it off. An offense anchored by Freddie Freeman, Nick Markakis, and potential NL Rookie of the Year Ronald Acuna Jr. fought hard, believed in each other, and are the first division winner in the National League. What a story.
It’s extremely difficult for us Braves fans to “live in the moment” when we were supposed to be 2-3 years away from the playoffs. We’ve been looking towards the future saying “man, these guys will be really good in 2020-2021.” But, it’s time we forget all that, because these guys are really good right now. It’s awesome to see a team that used to dominate the NL East return to prominence, not only because of my fandom, but because many news outlets picked them to finish 4th in the division, and 26th overall in the big leagues. This season is almost reminiscent of the movie “Major League” where a bunch of guys who were given no chance, now have a chance to win it all. The Braves still don’t know who they’ll be playing in the opening round, but they did just give the middle finger to most major news outlets in the United States, and that’s something to be proud of.
So, hats off to you, Atlanta. We’ll all be watching in awe as you young men take the field in hopes of brining another World Series to the Braves’ organization. #ChopOn
